Finishing Options – Protection and Impact
Good finishing protects your folders and enhances your design. We recommend lamination on the outer covers to reduce marking and help prevent cracking along fold lines:
Matt lamination or anti-scuff lamination
For a non-reflective finish that protects against moisture and handling marks.
Spot Gloss UV Varnish
Pair this with matt lamination to highlight logos and design features.
Full gloss lamination
This gives a vibrant colour depth and durable surface protection.

Custom Folder Printing
If you need folders tailored to your exact requirements, whether that’s a unique size, specific pocket configuration or other bespoke features – we can help. We can print from your supplied cutter guides, or work with you to produce artwork that meets your needs and prints correctly.
For folders that are assembled by machine, it’s important that the glue flap is positioned on the main body of the capacity folder rather than on a pocket. Folders designed this way, with a 15mm gap between the pocket edge and outer fold gutter, can be finished efficiently on our fastest equipment. Variations that don’t meet that layout can still be produced, but may require hand finishing, which can add to cost and turnaround time.

Folder Printing Tips
Avoid cracking
If your design includes solid colour across a fold, adding lamination will prevent cracking, which happens when the white paper fibres beneath show through.
The right paper weight
Your folder should be a minimum of 350gsm. We can also print on 400gsm and 450gsm for a more robust folder. The heaviest option has to be produced on our digital printers, because is too thick for litho presses.
Durability
Gloss or matt lamination will add a protective, water resistant layer to your folders, which will help them stay looking good for longer. To prevent scuffs and scratches on matt finishes, you can choose to add Anti-scuff laminate for an even stronger level of protection.
Dress to impress
Consider adding spot gloss UV varnish to logos and strap lines, or to selected shapes and images, for a classy, professional finish. Keep the spot gloss to one side of the design (when laid flat), to minimise costs. We’ll happily quote for single and double sided, so that you can see the cost difference.
Capacity pocket size
For cost efficient, high speed machine assembly, your capacity folder pockets need to fall between 3mm-12mm. Anything outside this range can be assembled by hand for you, but it will take a little longer, and won’t be as cost efficient.
