Finding The Perfect Fit For Your Booklets
Versatile booklets can be used for a wide variety of products or information. Generally small in size, they’re typically A5 with 8 to 48 pages, soft covers and simple staple binding, but they don’t have to be. At Bishops Printers we offer a custom booklet printing service.
Self-cover Booklets
Economical and lightweight, self-cover booklets use the same paper stock and weight throughout. They’re perfect for projects where budget is a priority, offering excellent print quality and affordability.
Without a thicker cover and the protective benefits of lamination, self-cover booklets are best suited to shorter-term use and one-off events. Please ask if you’re not sure which paper weight or stock will meet your objectives, and we’ll be happy to advise.
Plus-cover Booklets
This is where your booklet’s covers are printed on a heavier stock than the internal pages. They’re the ideal choice when aiming for a premium feel. Choosing heavier paper adds a level of protection and durability and will make your booklet feel more substantial when handled.
If your booklet is to be perfect bound (with pages glued into the spine) then you have to add covers of at least 200gsm to avoid tearing. We would recommend 250gsm for peace of mind. Remember that perfect binding requires a minimum spine width, typically 3mm.
By adding covers to your booklet, you have the option to add decorative specialist print finishes, such as foiling, embossing and spot-gloss UV varnish. We advocate cover lamination for perfect bound products to prevent cracking along the fold line. This is caused by repeated opening and closing causing the paper fibres to split making the spine appear worn. By adding lamination your booklet will stay looking pristine for longer.

If your booklet includes lots of photographs and images, choose a coated paper (silk, or gloss). The smooth finish will reflect the light and make your images appear more vibrant. Silk is the most popular choice for booklets that combine quite a bit of text with images.
